Siddu (Nagabhushana), also known as Vidyapati, meaning Vidya’s husband, is a charming-yet-flawed free-loader, and ‘manager-cum-husband’ who basks in the glamour of his movie star wife, Vidya (Malaika Vasupal). Coming from a less-privileged background, this marriage is a deal he manages by crook. While Siddu is in this marriage to milk her fame and make money, Vidya, who falls for him for his simplicity, is genuinely in love with him. She puts up with his shenanigans. When on a date, a chance encounter with Jaggu (Garuda Ram) changes things for Vidya and her husband. Jaggu misbehaves with Vidya, and Siddu fails to stand up for her. She throws him out of her mansion, and he is now forced to go back to his old life, which includes his father, stepmother, stepsister, and a friend who works as a mechanic. Siddu now has to find a route to make his way back to Vidya’s heart.

The first half of the film takes off slowly with some quirkiness. The film shines in the second half as it becomes a full-fledged commercial drama with all the right ingredients, including Dhananjaya’s cameo.

Nagabhushana shoulders the film as this entertainment package encapsulates everything that is required to establish him as a commercial hero. He makes use of the platform and aces in every department. Dhananjaya as Anakonda brings in the much-needed energy with his screen presence. Surprisingly, Malaika has very little screen presence. And Garuda Ram plays a template villain. Rangayana Raghu’s cameo feels wasted.

Though comedy is Nagabhushana’s forte, and the trio - directors Haseen and Esham and Nagabhushana, who had previously delivered rib-tickler Ikkat - this time delivers a flawed-yet-fun film. family drama. The film occasionally feels stretched. Technical team has worked as a shot in the arm.

The film is an entertainment package filled with little fun and lot of drama. If you like clean comedy, and family dramas that doesn’t really tug the heart’s strings but still impacts emotionally, Vidyapati delivers it. The film will appeal to all, especially family audience, and can be enjoyed in theatres.
