Hitler Movie Review:
Hitler is a revenge drama unfolding amidst multiple heists, upcoming elections and a cute love story. A corrupt politician is plotting to win the elections, multiple henchmen are murdered, hundreds of crores are swindled and many such events happen one after the other, but none arouses our curiosity.

While the cops led by GVM’s Sakthi try to connect the dots, seemingly removed from this chaos is Vijay Antony’s Selva, a newbie in Chennai. With a perfect cast and a premise beaming of potential, one might wonder where exactly Hitler goes wrong because it seems to hit all the right notes as per the template – there is a proper motive, interval twist, intriguing murders, songs etc. In a hurry to tick off each of these template settings though, the film seems to lose its focus. Take for instance, the heartbreaking moment where a woman learns that the love of her life is a criminal, or could even be a terrorist. The makers could have chosen any method to stage the confrontation scene that follows, however, they stick to the “create chaos by having a special number” format.

A predictable story is never an issue, only until the film is self-aware of it. Hitler, on the other hand, unravels like a revenge story with a lot of twists. But sadly, all these twists are hidden in plain sight. So be it when a seeming coincidence is revealed to be a well-planned murder or when the cops find the criminals through CCTV footage, there’s nothing new to keep the audience excited.

The songs increase the charm of Vijay Antony and Riya Suman’s romance sequences, which appear random but manage to connect with us. Likewise, the parallel staging of a heist and a proposal scene in the Chennai local train is an iconic choice executed well. There are a few other scenes too that depict director Dana SA’s clear ideas. For example, the film delivers clever social commentary through its dialogues – the head minister of the party warns the corrupt politician by saying “If you eat up half of the money, it is a fair act but if you want to keep all of it to yourself, it is wrong.”

Similarly, there is another stunning sequence showing a make-live shed where several people are counting the cozen cash, while some cook dinner and a few others get ready for bed. When you know the context of this sequence, it makes for a compelling setting. The intentions behind Dana’s writing gets a powerful depiction through such shots and dialogues. However, given the predictability, there’s very little excitement about what's next. So even when the story has all the right elements for a revenge drama, the film is never compelling enough.
